Many people get on the internet read some articles and decide.... Making money on the internet is really easy. However, I believe it is not a piece of cake but once you fortify your position it is easy to continue the flow of money.
If I was to start making money online, I would firstly start a Web-site with a unique idea that enables it to stand out from the competition - and most importantly, dedicate lots of time to it.
One of the primary things a website needs to have is content, content and content. The reason for this is search engine spiders feed on content and this helps you to get into SERPS. Search Engines are a cost free way to drive a lot of traffic to your sites, I don't believe in paying a lot of money to SEO agencies to optimize my site for Search Engine, I'd take a piece of pizza, some orange juice and begin reading the plethora of SEO articles available on the internet.

•Affiliate/Reseller Programs - These programs need a lot of time to generate money, you should know how to present them and also how to target the right niche. I wouldn't recommend this if you are a beginner to online marketing. But once you website becomes successful you will eventually discover the money behind such kind of marketings.
•Newsletter Advertising - I would think about this only if a site was popular with a minimum of 100 members. This comprises of periodic updates with useful articles and finally selling some ad space in the newsletter. Again, this requires a lot of effort - keeping the newsletter clean, easy to read and targeting the ads properly will encourage people to view the ad out of interest.
All these venues point out how important it is to have a website in order to make money online. Other forms of Advertising like, link exchanges will open up if you have a good Google PageRank. You can be paid for putting a Text link on your site and the rates depend on your PageRank and the person who is interested in sellling
Starting a website aiming only for monetary benefits would not be such a nice idea. Do something that you like and enjoy. This way your dedication towards the site will be genuine and it will help you in its overall betterment.
